New times require new thinking

The opinion that regulatory action when it comes to spreading of digital content not necessarily is a good thing is spreading to the more conservative parts of the business world.

The entertainment industry's pursuit of tough new laws to protect copyrighted materials from online piracy is bad for business and for the economy, according to a report being released Monday by the Committee for Economic Development, a Washington policy group that has its roots in the business world.

Bits and bytes are not atoms. New technology and innovations require clear and sharp thinking on possibilities, threats, how to change or create new business models and not knee jerk reactions to create new laws.
