Comicbook The Movie: this is going to be fun

A new Spinal Tap? Mark Hamill directs "Comicbook: The Movie".

It all started with the recent and overwhelming success of comic book favorites being adapted for the silver screen. The studios, Timely Studios in particular, seem to think that yesterday’s comic book is tomorrow’s box office gold – but some of us fans tend to disagree. So, when the fans objected to Timely Studios’ announcement of their latest movie “Codename: Courage,” they decided to hire me to direct a DVD extra for the eventual DVD release of the movie. What they don’t realize is that I am the undisputed #1 fan of “Commander Courage,” the original golden age (1940s) comic on which “Codename: Courage” is based. So, now it’s my turn to show you what I think, by setting my satirical sights on the industry that Hollywood is turning to for their latest blockbuster films...

Check out the actor list: Donna D’Errico, Tom Kenny and Daran Norris, guest appearances by Kevin Smith, Bruce Campbell, Hugh Hefner, Sid Ceasar, Jonathan Winters, Debby Derryberry, Ray Harryhausen, Bill Mumy and Matt Groening, also appearances by comic book luminaries Paul Dini, Peter David, Scott Shaw and Mark Evanier.

FOAF aggregator and search engine

This is the first service for collecting, connecting and displaying FOAF files that I have seen implemented.

Interesting service, simple to use and easy to browse. Good thing that TypePad and Ecademy generate FOAF files automatically.

PLINK gets all its user data from FOAF (Friend-of-a-Friend) files which anyone can add to their web site. FOAF files are machine readable (XML) text files that you can use to describe basic information about yourself and the people you know. Anyone can create a FOAF file quite simply by using tools like the excellent Foaf-a-matic. Some community based sites such as Typepad and Ecademy will also generate FOAF files automatically from your profile.

Looks like what I wanted to create for that mailing list I am a member of which needed a new member directory. Yet another project that never got off the ground. ;)

Preventing comment spam in MT

Great tips on how to make comment spammers dirty work a whole lot harder. Requires very little effort.

Recently I have started receiving more and more spam in my blog comments. This is a common problem:

{Blog comment spam, while certainly not a pest on the scale of its email equivalent, has still made enough of a presence felt for it to be considered a threat. Nobody wants to spend two hours a day cleaning out penis-enlargement ads from their blogs, so the blogosphere's brightest stars have been mulling ways to hit it on the head before it becomes a major problem. Various blacklists have been proposed, along with CAPTCHAs, comment throttling, authentication checks and various others. Thing is, I think spam prevention is simpler than that. Much simpler. Read on for a few quick solutions which MovableType users can implement right now to stave off all but the most persistent spammers.}

I am definitely going to implement some of these tips. Right now I am eagerly awaiting next release of MT though. Don't want to invest too much time in the older version of MT. Hopefully some of these tips have been included by Six Apart in the new version.

Update: Dan Sifry has another tip, limit the time during which comments are allowed.
